So you’ve landed in Lihue. It’s most likely afternoon and you’re hungry – especially after waiting in a long line for your rental car. So what now? Let us suggest a great place to eat as your intro do Kaua – Dukes.
Dukes is located next to Kalapaki Beach just a few quick minutes from the airport.
Head south when you leave the airport on Rice Street and you’ll see the Royal Sonesta Kauai Resort. Turn left before the shopping mall and go over the small historic bridge. Park in the lot used for Kalapaki Beach and walk across to Dukes.
They have a great menu – we loved the fish and the beer is great too. The neat thing is that you sit right next to the beach so you can see all the surfers and sailers while you eat.
You can really relax here – sometimes they even have live music. Now, this is the downstairs restaurant. They have fancier places upstairs – subject of a different review.
After your lunch/dinner you can walk along Kalapaki Beach and stick your toes in the warm Hawaiian waters. We’ve watched sailing clubs go through their maneuvers. Fun!
